Willingboro Firefighters were called to neighboring Burlington Township at 3:42 am on Friday, March 26th. Due to the department's close proximity to parts of Burlington Township, they often respond on the initial alarm for house and building fires. This incident involved a house on fire at 7 Silver Lane in the Sunset Ridge Development. Burlington Township Chief 3000 arrived on scene and found a large one-story home with heavy fire in the rear. Willingboro Engine 1611 arrived first on scene in eight minutes and the crew pulled a 2 1/2" handline to the rear of the home. Firefighters Carcasio and Rydarowski started to fight the fire as Captain Ramsey checked the fire conditions in the rest of the home from the outside. Firefighter Robertson established a 5" supply line to a nearby hydrant with the assistance of Burlington Township Police Officers. With no occupants reported in the home and the possibility of collapse due to the heavy fire conditions, all initial firefighting operations were conducted from the exterior. As additional firefighters from Burlington Township and City arrived on scene a 1 3/4" handline was also pulled from Engine 1611. A second hydrant was connected to by Burlington Township Engine 3023 to supply water to Ladder 3035. Ladder 3035 was used to supply large amounts of water in an effort to extinguish the fire. An additional 2 1/2" handline was pulled from Ladder 3035 to assist with extinguishing the fire. The crews on scene were able to control the blaze in about 25 minutes. There were no injuries as a result of the fire. A dog was removed from the home and treated by EMS personnel for smoke inhalation. Engine 1611 was released from the scene at 5:04 am to return to headquarters to restore the unit. |
