The Willingboro Fire Department mourns the passing of long time member Billy J. Massay on March 28th at the age of 82. Billy was a member of the department for over 45 years. Billy served as a firefighter, fire police officer, and Fire Commissioner. He was also a retired U.S. Navy Chief Airman Survival Equipment Man, a Special Police Officer for the Willingboro Police Department, and Treasurer of the Parachute Riggers Association.

On Monday, April 2nd, the department and family held funeral services for Billy. His wife of 58 years, Jean, rode with his cremated remains on Engine 1611 to the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery. The procession was led by members of the Willingboro Police Department Motorcycle Unit. Eight fire and EMS vehicles along with many family and friends made the trip from Willingboro Fire Headquarters to the cemetery.

Once at the cemetery members of the department lined the entrance way to the chapel and saluted Jean as she entered the chapel, escorted by Chief of Department Burnett. Once inside over 20 department members along with many family and friends attended the service. They heard eulogies from one of Billy's son and his daughter. Members of the United States Navy conducted full military honors and presented Jean with an American Flag in honor of Billy's service to his country.

The Willingboro Fire Department wishes to thank the Willingboro Police Department, Fire Police units from Westampton, Eastampton, Medford, and Mansfield for providing traffic control at major intersections throughout the procession, and the Delran Fire Department for providing fire coverage during the funeral service.
