A fire at a home in the Garfield East section of town caused damage in the attic and second floor on the evening of April 27th. At 8:09 pm the department was sent to 20 Essex Lane for smoke coming from the attic vents. When Engine 1632 arrived Captain Gardner reported smoke coming from the attic vents of the home.

Captain Gardner and Firefighter Robertson entered the home and used a thermal imaging cameral to detect a high heat condition in the attic of the home. As they were checking the inside of the home, firefighters on the outside advised them that fire was now coming from the attic. Firefighter J. Clark took a 1 3/4" hoseline to the second floor and Firefighter Robertson used a hand tool to remove the ceiling in the room. Once the ceiling was removed Firefighter Clark was able to quickly extinguish the fire, which was growing in the attic.

The fire was placed under control at 8:27 pm. A crew of firefighters from Westampton helped remove siding from the exterior of the home to check for hidden fire. All fire was contained to the attic of the home. The American Red Cross was called to assist the residents with temporary housing, and a contractor was called to cover holes on the side of the home. Once an investigation was completed by the Burlington County Fire Marshals Office, all units were cleared from the scene at 9:28 pm
