Smoke Detector Event - Saturday, March 16th In Millbrook Park
Email Print RSS Facebook Twitter RSS

By Firefighter Mark Robertson Sr.
March 12, 2019

The Willingboro Fire Department is once again teaming up with the American Red Cross and its partners to distribute free smoke detectors and fire prevention information. The detectors are 10 year life with a lithium battery. This means that you will never have to change the battery on the detector during the lifespan of the unit, which is 10 years. During this event fire prevention and safety materials will also be given out to residents.

This program is done in conjunction with the American Red Cross Home Fire Campaign. This program partners with fire departments from throughout the country to install smoke detectors, and distribute the fire prevention and safety materials. Over the past three years the program has installed 859 smoke detectors in township's Buckingham, Fairmount, Somerset, and Pennypacker parks.

This year's program will be held in Millbrook Park on Saturday, March 16th from 11am to 3pm. Personnel from the fire department and Red Cross will be installing the detectors and handing out the fire prevention and safety materials. If you have an existing smoke detector in your home, someone will inspect it for you, and replace it if necessary. All of the personnel will be wearing identification tags while canvassing the area. Please feel free to ask for ID if someone comes to your home.

Please see the attached flyer, and video which features Firefighter Bryan Riley, and Madhuri Rodriguez, Executive Director of the American Red Cross - Southwest Chapter - NJ Region. Also, if you are not home on Saturday, or do not live in Millbrook Park, you can still receive free smoke detectors and fire prevention and safety materials by doing the following:

1. Stop by or call our temporary Fire Headquarters at 40 Middlebury Lane, (609) 871-7476 to schedule an appointment for us to install them for you.

2. Stop by our display at any township event to schedule an appointment for us to install them for you.

The department also has a limited supply of 9-Volt batteries available that we will install in your smoke detector.
